Configuring standby server machine settings using a virtual machine snapshot

The standby server contains a clone of the primary server databases. When using virtual machine snapshots, the primary server takes live snapshots and sends them to the standby server to keep it up-to-date. This feature is only available for primary and standby servers with hypervisors capable of performing live snapshots and is considerably faster than performing the initial full backup. Before configuring the standby server, first create the snapshot on the primary server.

To Do this

Configure the current machine as a standby server from a snapshot and specify its primary server

  1. Click the Connectors > Standby Server tab.

  2. For Server Role, choose Standby Snapshot.

  3. Specify the following information about the primary server:

Primary Machine Host Name or IP Address

      Primary Machine Admin Console Username

      Primary Machine Admin Console Password

  4. Click Add to Primary.

Change the standby server snapshot directory

The standby server snapshot directory is a folder on the standby server that holds updates pushed by the primary server.

  1. Click the Connectors > Standby Server tab.

  2. For Standby Server Folder Path, click Change.

  3. Enter the new folder path.

  4. Click Save.

Note  The folder must already exist and have the FileMaker Server system user assigned with read and write access to it. See Tips for valid folders.

Switch operations from the primary to the standby server

  1. Click the Connectors > Standby Server tab.

  2. Click Switchover.
