Configuring a primary server to use a standby server

The primary server must grant access to a standby server. From the primary server, you can also create virtual machine snapshots for use in enabling a standby server.

To Do this

Configure the current machine as a primary server and specify its standby server

  1. Click the Connectors > Standby Server tab.

  2. For Server Role, choose Primary.

  3. For Allowed Standby Server, click Change, then enter the fully qualified domain name or IP address of the standby server machine.

  4. Click Save.

Change the standby server snapshot directory

The standby server snapshot directory is a folder on the primary server that holds updates used to push to the standby server.

  1. Click the Connectors > Standby Server tab.

  2. For Standby Server Folder Path, click Change.

  3. Enter the new folder path.

  4. Click Save.

Note  The folder must already exist and have the FileMaker Server system user assigned with read and write access to it. See Tips for valid folders.

Create a virtual machine snapshot

  1. Click the Connectors > Standby Server tab.

  2. For Create Virtual Machine Snapshot as Standby Server, click Create.

  3. Click Pause and Flush.

Note  Not all systems support live snapshot creation. Hypervisor with snapshot capabilities is required to create live snapshots.
