Installing a standby server
Standby Server is a redundant FileMaker Server installation that is ready to take over operations from the primary server. The primary server regularly replicates its data and configuration to the standby server so that, when needed, the server administrator can quickly switch operations from the primary server to the standby server.
Standby Server is an add-on to your FileMaker Server license, so only those whose purchase agreements include the add-on will see the standby server options in Admin Console.
A standby server is a single machine deployment that must:
-
Be installed on the same operating system type and platform type as the primary machine.
-
Be installed on the same disk type as the primary machine.
-
Have the same network configuration as the primary machine.
-
Be accessible over the network to the primary and secondary machines.
To set up a standby server, install FileMaker Server as a primary machine, then configure it to run as a standby server:
-
For installation, see Installing FileMaker Server on a single machine (Linux) or Installing FileMaker Server on a single machine (Windows and macOS).
-
For configuration, see Configuring a standby server in FileMaker Server Help.
