Moving an existing installation

You can move an existing installation of FileMaker Server to other machines. This includes migrating data from an existing FileMaker Server installation that's on another operating system.

Important  
  • You must perform the steps in the following sections in order.

  • Linux: After you move your data, uninstall FileMaker Server from the previous machine to prevent duplicating the same license. For more information on removing FileMaker Server, see Step 5. Uninstall FileMaker Server.

  1. Save the settings for your schedules and administrator roles.

  2. Note your existing FileMaker Server settings.

  3. Stop FileMaker Server.

  4. Make a copy of any databases and operating system script files (for example, files located in the scripts folder) you used with FileMaker Server.

  5. Uninstall FileMaker Server.

  6. Install FileMaker Server.

  7. Move any databases or operating system script files you used with the previous version of FileMaker Server to the proper folders within the FileMaker Server folder structure.

  8. Load the settings for your schedules and administrator roles. See Step 8. Load your Admin Console schedules and administrator roles.

  9. Configure FileMaker Server.
