What ADT installs
The installer puts two things on your computer. The coding agent plugin is ADT. The filemaker command line does the FileMaker work the plugin asks for. Web Viewer development uses FileMaker Pro's own built-in Agent Access instead of anything ADT installs; see System Requirements for that setting.
The coding agent plugin
The installer adds the plugin to every supported coding agent it finds. Cursor, the Codex CLI, ChatGPT, and VS Code receive the standard Agent Plugin. Claude Desktop and Claude Code receive the same integration packaged as a Claude plugin. They are one product in two wrappers, and you get whichever your agents need.
Everything the plugin depends on ships inside it:
-
Skills that teach your agent FileMaker and the ADT workflows.
-
Default FileMaker standards the agent applies to every project. These ship as their own plugin alongside the core one, and a team can override them with a standards plugin of its own.
-
The
adtcommand line, which the agent runs on your behalf. It is not on yourPATH, and you never call it. -
File components and the Web Viewer app template, which the agent adds to a FileMaker file or project only when a task needs them.
You do not configure any of this. Tell your agent what you want, and it chooses the skill and runs the tools.
The filemaker command line
filemaker reads and edits the schema of .fmp12 files directly: tables, fields, relationships, scripts, layouts, and security. It does not touch the records inside a file; the agent's data tools do that. The installer places it at /usr/local/bin/filemaker, where your agent, your scripts, and you can run it. It is the one ADT command you might type yourself.
Notes
-
Two different things are called a plugin. The coding agent plugin is what your agent loads. The
fmBridge()Vite plugin is a build-time import in your Web Viewer app that talks to FileMaker Pro's Agent Access duringvite dev. They are unrelated. -
Your projects are not part of the installation. Projects, connected files, and apps live in folders you own, and removing ADT leaves them in place. See Projects, connected files, and apps.
-
Exact paths for every installed file are in Global installed files.

If you're upgrading a project that still has the old FileMaker plug-in and connector, see Upgrade to ADT 0.8.
