Setting up two-step verification

In addition to signing in with your Claris ID user name and password, you can further protect your account by entering a unique verification code each time you sign in.

You can use one of these methods for two-step verification:

  • Get verification codes using an authenticator app. (Recommended)

  • Get verification codes by text messages.

Note  Turning on two-step verification for Claris ID accounts used for the FileMaker Admin API, the FileMaker Data API, or OData authentication will break the automation by requiring manual input. For uninterrupted automation, make sure two-step verification is turned off. See Using Claris ID for external authentication.

Use an authenticator app

You can use a third-party authenticator app to get a verification code. The app generates a time-based six-digit verification code. You need to enter both your password and the verification code to sign in to your Claris ID account.

To set up two-step verification using an authenticator app

  1. Download and install a third-party authenticator app.

Note  The authenticator app should be compatible with RFC 6238 and support time-based two-step verification.

  2. In Claris Customer Console, go to your Profile page.

  3. See Changing your profile.

  4. In the Two-Step Verification area, for Authenticator App, click Turn On.

  5. Enter your Claris ID password, then click Continue.

  6. Do one of the following, then click Continue:

    • Follow the onscreen instructions on your authenticator app to scan the QR code displayed on the screen in Claris Customer Console.

    • To enter the setup (secret) key manually, click Can't scan the QR code, then copy the code displayed on the screen. In your authenticator app, choose the option to enter a setup key, then add a time-based key using the key you copied from the screen in Claris Customer Console.

  7. Enter the six-digit verification code displayed in your authenticator app, then click Continue.

  8. After you finish setting up two-step verification, click Done.

To turn off two-step verification:

  1. In the Two-Step Verification area on your Profile page, for Authenticator App, click Turn Off.

  2. Enter your Claris ID password, then click Continue.
