Create a project
An ADT project is an ordinary folder that records FileMaker files and gives coding agents the instructions they need to work with them. Creating one does not install Node.js, a package manager, or application dependencies.
Create the project
Open your coding agent in the folder you want to use, then run the project setup skill that ships with the ADT plugin:
/filemaker-agentic-development:adt-project-setup
The slash command is the best way to start. It only works when the ADT plugin is installed and the agent has loaded it, so a successful run also proves the plugin is in place. The skill walks through creating the project and connecting your first FileMaker file, and it asks FileMaker Pro which files are open so you can pick one.
If your agent does not recognize the command, the plugin is not installed or has not loaded. See Manual configuration before going further. You can also describe the task in plain words, though the agent then has less to go on:
Create an ADT project called inventory in this folder and connect my FileMaker file to it.
The agent can use a new folder or an existing repository. If the target folder already contains files, ADT reports the conflict and asks before clearing or overwriting anything.
What ADT creates
A new project contains:
-
adt.json, which records connected files, apps, and an optional standards plugin -
AGENTS.md, which directs coding agents to the installed ADT plugin -
.gitignoreand a Git repository unless git setup is disabled
See Project folders and generated files for the complete layout.
Verify the project
Ask the agent to check the project after creation:
Verify this ADT project and tell me which FileMaker file is connected.
A failed file connection does not undo project creation. The agent can connect or correct the file entry later.
What project creation does not do
Creating a project does not add a Web Viewer app or JavaScript workspace. It does not install ADT components into the FileMaker file unless a later Web Viewer workflow requires them. Use Create an app only when the project needs a Web Viewer interface.
