Set the session timeout value for FileMaker Pro and FileMaker Go

  1. Click Change.

  2. Select the timeout value or click Custom.

  3. If you click Custom, enter the number of minutes and click Save.

In FileMaker Pro, select the Edit Privilege Set dialog box Disconnect user from FileMaker Server when idle option. Because you can set this option for each privilege set, certain users are disconnected when idle and other users always maintain their connections.

Note  Because clients who are disconnected will need to reopen the files, make sure the idle time is long enough to avoid frequent disconnections.

Set the session timeout value for FileMaker WebDirect

Changing the session timeout disconnects all FileMaker WebDirect sessions and requires manual restart of FileMaker Server service (Windows and Linux) or FileMaker Server background processes (macOS) on all secondary machines.

  1. Click Change.

  2. Select the timeout value or click Custom.

  3. If you click Custom, enter the number of minutes and click Save.

  4. After setting the timeout value, in the Change Session Timeout dialog box, click Yes.

  5. FileMaker Server only: In a multiple-machine deployment, restart the Web Publishing Engine on the secondary machines to apply this change from the primary machine to the secondary machines.

The Web Publishing Engine disconnects clients who have been inactive for the specified timeout period.

All FileMaker WebDirect solutions use database sessions, even clients that log in using administrator accounts. So all FileMaker WebDirect sessions are affected by the session timeout setting.
