Setting permitted hosts and plug-ins preferences

FileMaker Pro may notify you when you attempt to:

  • connect to a host that doesn’t support encrypted connections or whose SSL certificate cannot be verified

  • load a plug-in that hasn’t been signed by its developer

  • open a hosted app using a claris URL (Claris Pro) or an fmp URL (FileMaker Pro) for a host that hasn’t been permitted

When connecting to hosts

Examples of attempting a connection that may display a notification are opening a file hosted by FileMaker Pro or FileMaker Server, sending email to an SMTP server using a secure connection, or performing certain script steps.

If you see this message, do one of the following:

  • To always connect to the host, select Always permit connection to this host, then click Connect. FileMaker Pro connects to the host and adds it to your permitted list (in the Preferences dialog box). You will not receive another notification for this host for the same error.

  • To connect without adding the host to the permitted hosts list, click Connect.

  • If you are uncertain whether to permit the connection to the host, click Cancel and contact the custom app developer.

When loading plug-ins

If a plug-in is enabled, FileMaker Pro attempts to load it after it is installed and whenever FileMaker Pro starts. If FileMaker Pro can’t verify an enabled plug-in’s digital signature, or if an enabled plug-in hasn’t been signed by its developer, FileMaker Pro may notify you that it can’t verify whether the plug-in has been tampered with since the developer created it.

If you see this message, do one of the following:

  • To always load the plug-in, select Always load this plug-in, then click Load Plug-in. FileMaker Pro loads the plug-in and adds it to your permitted list. You will not receive another notification for this plug-in.

  • To load the plug-in without adding it to the permitted list, click Load Plug-in.

  • If you are uncertain whether to permit the plug-in to load, click Cancel and contact the plug-in developer. The plug-in is moved to the Saved subfolder in the Extensions folder and won’t be loaded again. To load the plug-in, you must install it again or move it to the Extensions folder. See Installing plug-ins.

When opening apps using claris or fmp URLs

If a claris or fmp URL is used to open a hosted app, Claris Pro or FileMaker Pro may notify you that such URLs are not permitted to open apps on this host. This applies to both claris URLs (Claris Pro) and fmp and fmpXX URLs (FileMaker Pro), where XX is the major version number of the application.

To enable this notification:

  • Claris Pro: Choose Edit menu > Preferences (Windows) or Claris Pro menu > Preferences (macOS), click the Permitted tab, and select Warn me before a claris URL opens a file.

  • FileMaker Pro: Choose Edit menu > Preferences (Windows) or FileMaker Pro menu > Preferences (macOS), click the Permitted tab, and select Warn me before an fmp URL opens a file.

If Claris Pro or FileMaker Pro notifies you that it can’t open the app, do one of the following:

  • To always allow apps to be opened using a claris URL or an fmp URL for the host, select Always permit claris URLs for this host (Claris Pro) or Always permit fmp URLs for this host (FileMaker Pro), then click Open. Claris Pro or FileMaker Pro opens the custom app and adds the host to your permitted list. You will not receive another notification for this host.

  • To open the app using the URL without adding the host to the permitted list, click Open.

  • If you are uncertain whether to permit the custom app to open, click Cancel and contact the custom app developer.

See Opening files using a URL.

To remove hosts and plug-ins from the permitted list:

  1. Windows: Choose Edit menu > Preferences.

macOS: Choose FileMaker Pro menu > Preferences.

  2. In the Permitted tab, select one or more hosts or plug-ins, then press Backspace.

Notes

  • FileMaker Pro automatically permits connections to hosts with verified SSL certificates and loading signed plug-ins; they are not added to the permitted list.

  • For each operating system account on a computer, the user controls which hosts and plug-ins are added to that user’s permitted list. The user’s list applies to all FileMaker Pro files the user opens.
